The IOS Group started in 2001 as a training service provider with Services Seta accreditation. John O’Connor, one of the owners and the current chair of the company, joined the organization in 2006. John was the previous Chief Executive Officer of South Africa School Sport and the Managing Director of loveLife, the largest HIV/Aids prevention programme for young people in the world.

John used his skills and his ability to scale large projects and companies and grow the business into a national one within two years. The IOS Group now has four companies under its umbrella, and delivers education, training and development in the form of short-course training, full qualifications, learnerships, internships, management-in-a-box toolkits, industry-customised ISO-type grading systems, and services leveraging matching funds from development funds and from skills and jobs funding schemes. Some of its most unique service offerings are those of building national programmes and customised solutions for industries; offering training accreditation services, SMME and start-up development, and community development; and setting up academies and training centres.

Today, more than 18 years since it was founded, the IOS Group is led by Managing Director Amanda O’Connor, with a powerful woman-owned and women-managed team. IOS is now recognised by its clients, in several industries, as a leading national vocational institute.
